Joel E. Addison was born May 10, 1839 in Illinois, and died October 14, 1914 at Coffeyville, Kansas. He enlisted as a Private in Company G of the 9th Illinois Volunteer Infantry. He entered service at Cairo, Illinois July 27, 1861 and was discharged July 18, 1865. His pension application states that he was run over by a horse while attending his duties at Shilo, Mississippi, april 1862 injuring his leg and left breast.
