Thomas D. P. Henley

Comissary Sergeant, 123rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry

This photo shows Lapsley Campbell Henley (seated) and his brother, Thomas Duncan Patrick Henley.

Thomas Henley served as the Comissary Sergeant for the 123rd Illinois Volunteer Infantry (a rank he received in September 1862--I don't know exact service dates.)

I believe that Thomas farmed in Paradise Township near Mattoon after his discharge; he never married.

Also pictured are Lapsley's wife, Mary Elizabeth Allison Hensley (standing) and the Henley's sister, Rebecca Henley Lawson (seated). Rebecca never had children.

I received this photo (just a Xerox!) less than a month ago from my "cousin" Pat Henley Nicholson of San Luis Obispo, CA.

In an ironic twist of fate, Lapsley Henley fought at the battle of Fort Donelson. My gr-gr-grandfather on the other side of my family, a CSA volunteer from Tennessee, died as a result of that battle!
