An autographed Carte de Visite (cdv) photo of Andrew Smith from Ellisville, Ill. in Fulton County who went from Sergeant in 1863 to Captain by the time he mustered out in 1865. The ID is scribed on the reverse side of cdv in period ink: "Andrew Smith 1st Lt Co 'B' 103d Regt. Ill. Vol Infty to Mrs. M A Smith." The photog's back mark is Sam A. Cooley, Tenth Army Corps, Beaufort, SC where the regiment was located during it's service in Jan. 1865. The regiment lost a total of 219 killed in action or died from wounds, prison, and disease.
